GP guilty of 10 sexual assaults to face 'significant' prison sentence

The GP insisted his groping and “massaging” were all part of a legitimate medical treatment at his surgery in Dudley, West Midlands.

If they missed their appointments, Rathore would ring to remind them to attend in future.

Police investigated when a woman with a hip problem complained of sexual assault in May 2015.

Heidi Kubik, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court: “His actions went far beyond that of legitimate medical treatment.

“It was an excuse to touch these complainants in a way that was sexually motivated on his part.”

She said Rathore had a special interest in the massage therapy. “We say this was an interest fuelled by his own illicit sexual desires,” she added.

Yesterday, jurors found him guilty of 10 sex assaults on the victims between 2008 and 2015.

The married father-of-five, of Wall Heath, West Midlands, was cleared of eight charges relating to four other complainants.

Judge Michael Challinor rejected a plea for him to be bailed until he is sentenced today.

He told Rathore: “You must expect a significant prison sentence.”

Rathore qualified as a GP in Manchester in 1985 and worked in Birmingham in the 1980s.

Police praised the women’s bravery and appealed for other victims to come forward.

Inspector Michelle Thurgood said: “Rathore was a trusted GP. Many of the patients that have come forward have gone to him for years – their lifetime – so are absolutely traumatised and devastated that he has abused that position.”
