Kate Middleton rewears Princess Diana’s favourite tiara at Buckingham Palace

Kate Middleton, 35, wore her late mother-in-law’s favourite tiara to the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace.

The Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara is encrusted with diamonds and pearls – and was given to Princess Diana by the Queen.

The tiara was a wedding present to a young Diana on her wedding day to Prince Charles in 1981.

Kate also wore the tiara in December last year for the annual Diplomatic Reception.

This time she matched the extravagant headgear with a stunning red dress.

The Duchess of Cambridge is currently pregnant with her third child with Prince William, 35.

She was joined at the event tonight by Camilla Parker-Bowles, who wore a large tiara. She accessorised with dangling earrings and pearl necklace.

What is the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara?

The tiara was created by Garrad Jewellers in 1914 for Queen Mary. She left the tiara to the Queen in her will – and the Queen has worn the piece often.

Princess Diana first wore the stunning piece in the Houses of Parliament and kept it in her possession until her death in 1997.

Diana claimed the large piece was such heave that it gave her a headache, but that didn’t stop her wearing the beautiful headpiece.

Kate Middleton is a fan of wearing jewellery that once belonged to Princess Diana, as her stunning engagement ring featuring a sapphire was once Diana’s.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s fiancee, has recently also received some jewels that belonged to Princess Diana in her engagement ring.

The ring has three diamonds set in a gold band, but how much is Meghan Markle’s engagement ring worth?

Sophie Lomax of 77Diamonds.com said: “Prince Harry has chosen a trilogy ring. He is said to have designed the ring and incorporated some of his mother Princess Diana’s diamonds in it, making it a jewel of inestimable value.”

Cheaper versions are already available on the British high street. Argos has a version for £33, while QVC is selling a version for only £22.50.

Camilla Parker Bowles, on the other hand, wore the Greville Tiara tonight – an enormous art deco piece.

The tiara was made by Boucheron in 1921 for the high society lady Mrs Greville, who left her jewels to the Queen Mother when she died.

The Queen Mother was a huge fan of the gift and, in her later years, it was one of only two tiaras she chose to wear publically.

Camilla is a big fan of the piece and has worn it often, often with other large pieces of jewellery – as she demonstrates tonight.
