Martin Lewis is a 45-year-old British financial journalist who has an OBE for his money-related insights.

He has graced British television with his ITV primetime show The Martin Lewis Money Show, and as a weekly guest on This Morning and Good Morning Britain.

His website,, which he started for £100 but has now sold, had seven million subscribers.

But how much is the money expert really worth?

Martin, who married his wife Lara Lewington in 2009, briefly worked at a financial communications consultancy before heading into media.

He graduated as a journalist and became a producer for the BBC Business Unit.

He also worked for Sky’s Simply Money, where he began to present himself as a money saving expert.

However, it wasn’t until 2002 that he made the decision to start a website, which would contribute to the majority of his fortune.

In June 2012, BBC News reported Martin sold for up to £87m. The fiancial expert sold it to – an online price comparison service.

At the time he said: “This is great news for and its users, ensuring, with or without me, the site will be around for many years to come, maintaining our ethos of ‘cutting your costs and fighting your corner’.

“ has become part of people’s daily lives, far bigger than the man who founded it, and now is the right time for it to stand on its own two feet.”

As part of the deal it’s believed he initially received £35m plus shares in the website worth an additional £25m.

He promised to donate £10m of the profit to charity.

Now Martin takes part in regular TV slots has columns in the Manchester Evening News and the Daily Express.

He has also penned two best-selling books – however his salary and proceeds from the books have not been disclosed.

His total net worth hasn’t been revealed but he continues to give sound, fair monetary advice to the nation on ITV’s This Morning every week and works with MSE regularly.

Martin Lewis revealed how Britons can always get the cheapest deals on their gas and electricity bills.

Thankfully the money saving expert’s trick does not take much skill other than some negotiating experience.
