Tom Hardy: Christopher Nolan REVEALS why he keeps covering Dunkirk star's face in movies

The 49-year-old Hollywood star has starred in a number of Nolan’s movies, with Dunkirk being the latest.

In the WW2 epic he plays an RAF pilot who spends much of the time behind a mask – while at one point talking on the radio to a cameoing Michael Caine.

Hardy’s fans have since noticed that the last time the actor worked with Nolan, he spent the whole time behind Bane’s breathing mask.

But it’s not just Nolan, Hardy’s face was in an enforced mask for the beginning of Mad Max: Fury Road and behind a scraggly beard in The Revenant.

Now Nolan has spoken out on why he keeps covering up Hardy’s face.

Speaking with the Press Association, he said: “I was pretty thrilled with what he did in The Dark Knight Rises with two eyes and couple of eyebrows and a bit of forehead so I thought let’s see what he can do with no forehead, no real eyebrows, maybe one eye.

“Of course Tom, being Tom, what he does with single eye acting is far beyond what anyone else can do with their whole body, that is just the unique talent of the man, he’s extraordinary.”

The filmmaker said: “He’d be amazing. He really would.”

Hardy is currently at 3/1 to be the next James Bond, just behind Craig who is now odds on after the announcement that the next 007 movie will be released in November 2019.
