Aviva seals HSBC deal as profits jumps to £1.465 billion

The insurance giant has also sealed a 10-year deal to provide general insurance products for HSBC in the UK and extended its seven-year sponsorship of Premiership Rugby by a season, until June 2018.

It said the HSBC tie-up provides “significant growth opportunities” for its home and travel cover products.

Mark Wilson, Aviva chief executive said of the deal: “It’s a very good win for us.”

He added in his statement: “We’ve seen significant growth in market share across a lot of our markets.

“When there’s uncertainty, people are attracted to bigger, strong brands.”

But he said: “No one is doing high fives — far from it. We still have a very big strategic agenda.”

Aviva grew its general insurance and health profits by a quarter to £417 million, while fund management profit was up 41 per cent to £69 million.

Profit from its life business rose yesterday from 8 per cent to £1.32 billion.
