Bodybuilder breaks neck and DIES after stunt goes horribly wrong


Sifiso Thabete broke his neck after landing on his head after an attempted backflip went horribly wrong during a competition.

Footage shows the the competitor running into the arena in front of excited onlookers, as one filmed.

He then attempted the stunt in front of the watching audience, on Saturday.

After landing on his head, worried officials rush to the aid of Lungelo as he lay motionless on the floor.

Despite the immediate attempts to save Thabete’s life, he, unfortunately, passed as a result of his injuries.

The bodybuilder, from Umlazi in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, had been tipped for a bright future in the sport after being crowned as a former IFBB junior world champion the up to 75kg category.

South African bodybuilding magazine Muscle Evolution said the bodybuilding community was “shocked and saddened” by the competitor’s untimely death.

Lungelo had recently won the under-23 up to 75kg division of the IFBB Muscle Mulish Grand Prix competition in Johannesburg, South Africa, last July.

The champion had “impressed the crowd and the judges with unbelievable muscle size and maturity beyond his age”, the magazine reported.

Lungelo had also finished runner-up in a senior competition, for men up to and including 80kg, where he successfully performed the backflip during his routine.

Posts on his social media show he was dedicated and determined to become the best in his sport, often sharing motivational messages on Facebook alongside images of himself.

The bodybuilder had recently shared a magazine article written about him, saying: “Wow, God is good.”
