BREAKING: Five sailors injured and 10 missing after US warship crashes into cargo vessel

The USS John S. McCain guided-missile destroyer collided with the vessel Alnic MC at 11.24pm BST on Sunday (6.24am on Monday in local time).

The Destroyer, nicknamed “Big Bad John”, was travelling to a routine port visit in Singapore.

The collision happened as the vessel was entering into port.

Initial reports say that John S.McCain has damaged the left side at the rear.

There is an investigation to determine the extent of the damage.

A spokeman from the US Navy confirmed that search and rescue efforts are underway and the USS America has been sent to assist USS John S. McCain.

It is unknown whether anyone has been injured or killed in the collision.

On Twitter, Navy Reading said: “Bracing for further updates. We pray for safety & security of #USS JohnMcCain.”

And Dave Cochrane said: “Some serious examination of watch keeping standards and rule of the road understanding needed here. I hope nobody was killed or badly hurt.”

The crash comes only weeks after the USS Fitzgerald was involved in a crash that killed seven sailors.

The John S.McCain is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer which is one of the largest destroyers built in the United States.
