BREAKING: Sledgehammer-wielding gang on mopeds raid jewellers in Knightsbridge

Shocking footage has emerged of the yob’s getaway on mopeds and scooters through the streets of central London.

The gang smashed their way into the store – which specialises in diamonds – and made off with goods from the display cabinets.

Bystanders filmed at least six black-helmet thugs, armed with a sledgehammer, robbing Boodles jewellery boutique stop in trendy Knightsbridge.

The gang struck in broad daylight just after 10.30am Wednesday morning.

Initially three of the robbers wait outside the store, but one goes inside.

Another continues to guard the entrance while the other rides up and down the street on their moped.

Smoke rises from the store, suggesting the gang may have used a smoke bomb in the raid.

Footage shows four of the robbers bursting out the entrance suddenly, with one brandishing a large sledgehammer.

All six then make off down the street as witnesses look on in horror.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police are investigating after the robbery of a jewellers in Chelsea.

“Police were called at 10:37hrs on Wednesday, 16 August to reports of a robbery at a jewellers in Basil Street at junction with Sloane Street, SW1.

“A number of suspects had arrived on motorscooters, entered the store and then used hammers to smash their way through counter displays.

“The robbers removed property from the displays and then made off on the bikes.”

No staff are thought to have been injured in the raid.

No arrests have been made and police enquiries continue.
