Darkest Hour RELEASE DATE: When is Gary Oldman’s Winston Churchill movie out in the UK?

The drama, directed by Joe Wright, was released in the USA in late 2017 and is set to finally make its way to British cinemas.

Darkest Hour’s UK release date is this Friday, January 12.

That’s the same day it can be seen in many European countries, including Spain, Ireland and Norway; and Australia is pencilled in for Thursday, January 11.

Oldman plays Winston Churchill in the film, and won Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) at last night’s Golden Globes.

He stars alongside Ben Mendelsohn as King George VI, Kristin Scott Thomas as Clementine Churchill and Lily James as Elizabeth Layton.

Darkest Hour focusses on Churchill’s early days as Prime Minister, while Hitler closes in on Britain in the midst of World War II.

It’s had strong acclaim thus far; with an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic grade of 7.4 out of 10.

Oldman is expected to garner nominations too for the BAFTAs and the Oscars, with the former’s shortlist due tomorrow.

Gary Oldman’s win last night at the Globes was notable, given that he has previously slammed the ceremony as “bent” and “meaningless”.

He was nominated for an Academy Award in 2012 for Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, but did not win.

Darkest Hour is out this Friday in the UK.
