Liverpool Transfer News: Barcelona and Real Madrid will want Sadio Mane – Jamie Carragher

Mane joined Liverpool from Southampton for £34million in the summer of 2016 and has quickly become a fan favourite at Anfield.

The 25-year-old has scored 15 goals in 29 Premier League games under Jurgen Klopp and was missed when he went to the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal in January.

Carragher believes he is good enough to play for the biggest clubs in the world but Liverpool’s stance with Philippe Coutinho, where they have rejected three mega-money offers from Barcelona, shows they may not be willing to let Mane go either in the future.

“I think the way Liverpool have dealt with it (Coutinho) has sent a message right throughout the dressing room,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“They want to be bringing players in, they want to improve on what they’ve got.

Liverpool are a very good side, not a great side.

“You need to keep your top players and he is on the verge of becoming one of the top players, not just in this Liverpool team, but certainly in this Premier League.

“I think there was raised eyebrows when he came from Southampton at the fee, which looks a snip now considering the prices this summer.

“But I have no doubt if he continues in the form that he’s been in in the last sort of 18 months, that there will be clubs, Barcelona, Real Madrid, looking at Mane in the future because as we’ve always said, when those clubs come calling, any club is in danger of losing their players.”

Mane is set to start for Liverpool when they welcome Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal to Anfield this afternoon (4pm).

Philippe Coutinho has not featured yet this season and will continue to be on the sidelines with a back injury.
