Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona: Reds rejected £90.3m offer in 35 minutes – Guillem Balague

That is according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

He tweeted: “Liverpool rejected second offer of Barcelona of €85m plus €15m adds on within 35 minutes of getting it.

“They plan to reject the next one too. They do not want to sell. FCB admit they might return but they also looking for alternatives.

“FCB always knew it’s a long saga and the search for media clicks (not the club) is what brought about false stories of imminent transfer.”

Barcelona had an initial £72m bid for Coutinho rejected last month and Liverpool have once again swiftly shown the Catalans that they do not want to sell the Brazilian playmaker.

Coutinho is Barcelona’s top transfer target after selling Neymar to Paris Saint Germain for £200m.

Liverpool have been strong in their determination to keep hold of the 25-year-old.

But former Red Craig Bellamy believes it will be ‘nigh-on impossible’ for  Coutinho to stay at Anfield.

He told Sky Sports: “Liverpool are going to stay firm, but it’s still early in the transfer window, and how long can they stay firm for?

“No supporter wants to hear this, everyone thinks their team is the biggest, and rightly so, but this is Barcelona. If they come calling, it’s very difficult for players to turn down.

“This is Coutinho, who has the opportunity to play with Lionel Messi, the best player to play football, to go to one of the best clubs in football. How can you look him in the eyes and tell him this isn’t an improvement? To tell him this isn’t what you deserve?

“This is the difference. With Liverpool you’ve got the chance of competing in the Champions League with Liverpool, or there’s a chance of realistically going to win the Champions League with Barcelona. It’s nigh-on impossible to turn them down.”
