‘Someone’s at the door’ Chilling text girl, 12, sent to mother before she was murdered

Yhoana Arteaga’s mother found her lifeless body after she had been bludgeoned to death when she returned home from work in Nashville, Tennessee at 6.45pm local time.

The schoolgirl had taken time off school to recover from a skating accident.

Nashville police have said she may have known her attacker.

She was home alone when she sent her mum a message at 5.30pm saying someone was at the door – five hours after they had eaten lunch together.

Police spokesman Dan Aaron would not say whether she had been sexually assaulted but did say she suffered “blunt force trauma” to her body.

Her injuries were not the result of gunfire.

Sgt. David Kautzman said the young girl’s murder was the “most brutal” he had seen in his entire career.

He told WKRN: “This is a horrible thing. The police department is coming together like no case I’ve ever seen.”

Her school, Liberty Collegiate Academy, said she will be remembered as a “wonderful daughter and great friend”.

One Facebook post said: “Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of Yhoana Arteaga.

“Our thoughts are with Yhoana’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We love you, Yhoana.”

Another wrote: “Prayers to her family, she was a sweet little girl and my daughter is heartbroken cause she lost a good friend!”
